Solid waste is a growing environmental problem in Vietnam.
Rapid economic development improves people’s lives, however, it also creates a necessity for environmental protection, especially regarding the management and treatment of solid waste.
Most districts of Tra Vinh province have organized management teams to collect, transport, and handle the generated waste, especially for domestic solid waste.
However, due to various reasons, the implementation process still faces many limitations and has low effectiveness.
At the present, in Tra Vinh province, specifically Duyen Hai town and Duyen Hai district and Cau Ngang district, in particular, solid waste is only handled by simple methods such as landfill disposal, which does not comply with environmental and hygiene standards, also causes loss of ecology system and adverse effects the surrounding environment, as well as public health.
Therefore, the investment project “Duyen Hai town solid waste treatment plant” suits the current situation and urgent need.
Besides, the project also has outstanding advantages, such as:
– The project’s location is in the “Complex of solid, industrial and hazardous waste treatment at Long Huu commune, Duyen Hai town”, which not only meets the development orientation of the province but also has an opportunity for future expansion.
– “Solid waste supply agreements” have been signed with Duyen Hai Commune, Duyen Hai Town, and Cau Ngang Town to secure the input waste for the project.
– The project has been approved with a provisional unit price for treating domestic solid waste of
488,599 VND/ton (VAT included), which is higher than the average prices in the region.
– The project is permitted to handle municipal solid waste and possibly extended to medical and hazardous waste.
– The project has received attention and supportive guidance from local authorities in solving
arising issues during the project implementation process.
